Which mode are you referring to? I believe Road To The Show you create your player, but don't have control over where the character goes.

RTTS, you should be able to go through a draft or select the team you want to start on.

Oh I didn't know you had control over it once it came to being drafted. I thought it was like the NBA 2K series.
